Yarn
count is the numerical expression which indicates or expressed the fineness or
coarseness of yarn. According to Textile Institute, Count a number indicating
the mass per unit length or the length per unit mass of yarn. Yarn count can be
described into two systems:
1. Direct system or fixed weight.
2. Indirect system or fixed length.
Direct
System: The yarn number or count is the mass of unit length of yarn. Higher the
count coarser the yarn. This system is commonly used for man-made fiber, jute,
silk etc.
Indirect
System: In indirect yarn counting system the count or number is the length per
unit mass of the yarn. Higher the count finer the yarn. This system is commonly
used for cotton, worsted, linen etc.
