Chromophore

This word comes from a Greek word in which ‘Chroma’ means color and ‘Phoros’ means bearing, so the molecules which bear the color showing group is called chromophore.
Example:
1.      Nitro group (-NO2).
2.      Azo group (-N=N-).
3.      The carbonyl group (>C=O).
4.      The quinoid group.
5.      Nitrous group (-N=O).
