Vat dye is mainly water insoluble
dye. In an alkali aqueous solution the
vat dyes are normally applied to the fiber. Alkali aqueous solutions are
subsequently oxidized in the fiber to the insoluble form.
Properties of vat dye:
- Vat dyes are water insoluble and can not be applied directly on textile materials.
- Mainly used for cellulose fiber dyeing.
- Rubbing fastness is poor.
- High cost.
- Various shades are found.
- Wash fastness is good (4-5).
- Dyeing process is difficult.
Only in your blog I was able to find a detailed description of this type of dye and understand how the whole process of coloring occurs.
